Organize Devices by Building, Floor, and Room

Create buildings, floors, and rooms, add many at once, assign devices, and filter the dashboard by location.

Buildings, floors, and rooms tell you where each device is. Floors are optional, so a room can sit directly in a building.

Each device belongs to one location. The path shows on the dashboard as Building › Floor › Room.

Create Buildings, Floors, and Rooms

Open Buildings in the sidebar and select New buildings.

Enter a building name and select Create 1 building.

On a building row, select + Floor to add floors.

On a floor row, select + Room to add rooms.

For a building without floors, open the building's actions menu and select Add room….

Add Many at Once

New buildings, + Floor, and + Room all open the same dialog. It creates up to 50 locations at a time.

  • Type a list: enter one name per line under Names, one per line. displayAQI drops blank lines and repeated names
  • Generate a range: set a Prefix, From, and To. A prefix of Room with 101 to 120 creates Room 101 through Room 120

Check the preview line, then select the create button, which shows the count, such as Create 3 rooms. displayAQI adds new locations after the existing ones, in the order you typed them.

Assign a Device to a Room

From the Buildings page:

On a room row, select + Device. On a building or floor, open its actions menu and select Add devices….

Search for devices, select them, and select Add N devices. A device assigned elsewhere moves here.

From a device page:

Open the device and find the Location card.

Choose a Building, then a Floor and Room if the building has them.

Select Save location. Nothing changes until you save.

To clear a device's location, choose Unassigned under Building, or select Remove from location in the device's actions menu on the Buildings page.

Rename, Reorder, and Move

  • Rename: double-click a name, type, and press Enter. Escape cancels
  • Reorder: use the up and down arrows on a row to swap it with its neighbor
  • Move: open the actions menu, select Move…, choose the new Building or floor, and select Move. Devices inside move with it

A floor can only sit in a building. You can reorder buildings but not move them.

Delete a Location

Open the actions menu and select Delete. The dialog lists how many floors, rooms, and devices are affected.

  • Deleting a building also deletes its floors and rooms
  • Devices become unassigned
  • Device readings, alerts, widgets, and kiosks stay
  • Deleting can't be undone

Find Devices by Location

On the dashboard, Filter by location limits the list to one building, floor, or room.
